Textile industry is one of the largest industries in India. increasing demand and globalization fading out cultural and traditional values of handloom textiles because of lack of up-gradation. it is important to preserve and conserve the heritage of the traditional handloom business in modern ways. Proposed project is focusing on Kerala handlooms from southern part of India where we found huge variety of traditional handloom textiles. This project is focusing on 4 types of silks Kuthampully, Chendamangkam, Balarampuram and Knnur. And providing solution and platform for future generation through training and market facility.

Site has divided in 3 sub parts as per users such as Training, Shopping Centre and Exhibition Centre has placed facing road as Public and Semi-public places and Rear side of the site has allotted for Residential area for weavers. Entrance is 8m wide with watchmen’s cabin and front foyer has feature wall. Parking area has designed for 40 cars, 80 vehicles, 2 buses and 5 service vehicles. There is also a separate Service entry.

Behind the front feature wall there is Amphitheater and has capacity of 300 people maximum which is purposefully placed in between Shopping center and Training center and to perform Annual gatherings as public space. Shopping center is facing road to attract visitors and generate revenue. Exhibition area and Cafeteria are also aligned with it. Training center is to promote and spread the art of weaving and has facilities such as dying and drying, units of classrooms, library, multipurpose, audio-visual room.

Residential area has divided in two clusters and designed with central courtyards for community gatherings with children’s play area. So, visitors can experience journey of weaving. 2^ndcluster have VIP Guest house and the central courtyard has designed with stage area where community Annual gatherings will be done. Remaining area has dedicated to allied services like stop, Grey water treatment plant and Water reservoir. 9m Ring road has designed as per firefighting rules and all primary connecting pathways are 4.5m wide and secondary pathways are 1.5 m wide.

Individual Residence has been designed as per Weaver’s circulation and required area for loom. While planning passive cooling strategies have considered, at the west side of residence, shading device is provided to avoid direct sun to the room. All doors and windows have louvers to avoid direct humid air flow. All walls are 300mm thick for thermal cooling and heating. Ventilator is been provided at staircase tower for hot air to rise up and escape.

The campus can invite Political leaders or International guest for function so that, the VIP guest house has been planned with Verandah, Living room, Dining and Kitchen at Ground floor. At First floor 2 Master Bedroom and party deck has been designed.

Shopping area is 2440 sqm which is G+1 structure with internal courtyard, the corridor revolves around internal courtyard. This area is designed with Administration exhibition area, 19 no. of Shops. Cafeteria with capacity of 60 no of seating’s, Common toilets, drinking water facility and public seating. It is aligned with parking area connected to kitchen area of cafeteria for ease of loading and unloading.

Training area is 3100 sqm which is G+1 structure with internal courtyard, the corridor revolves around internal courtyard this area has designed with 4 no. of classrooms and it can accommodate 40 students with one guide. Training area has library, multipurpose hall and staff room. This area also comprises of boys and girls hostel accommodating 15 student each block and having common dining area in between which will also serve as canteen area for training block. This area combines dying and drying unit which has service entry from North side of the block. The classroom height is 5m so as to control noise generated by handlooms.1
